TUTORIAL #1: SKETCHED EFFECT

So I have been asked on how I achieved the effect on my version four layout. Now I lost my old psd for the file so the coloring on it will be a little off. Also, I learned how to do most of this from an old tutorial of Wendy's over at Black Lagoon.

Open a blank canvas, size 737 x 402 I use this promo from pretty as a PICTURE and resize it to look like this. Next Duplicate that layer and hide the original one. Then I make a Brightness/Contrast layer mask, just enough to make the image a bit more contrasted. Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Brightness/Contrast after that, copy merge the layers. Now it's time for those filters! First I use Filter > Sketch > Photocopy with these settings :

Then I go to Edit > Fade Photocopy set to 23% and I believe it was set to overlay seen here. Copy Merge once again and use Filter > Artistic > Cutout with these settings:

From there you take the bottom layer that I had saved from the begining and use Filter > Artistic > Paint Daubs with these settings:

Then I set that layer as the top one and put the opacity to 75%.I duplicated that layer, put a mask on it and then erased the parts on my characters, so that the background stood out more which you can see here. After that, then you add this texture I got from Salt N' Burn, and set it to Overlay. Then simply add in some gradients, I added about 10 of them all from Oxoniensis Art, each set to Soft Light, you can even add in one set to Lighten, just put the Opacity to 20% or below (though you can put it to what you want). You can see here what I used and what they were set to:

After all that you will get this as your final product.
